Objective

The goal for the University of Manchester was to craft an engaging and memorable experience for 900 new international students initiating their university journey. This endeavour aimed to not only warmly welcome the students but also to facilitate networking, enabling them to forge connections amongst themselves. Additionally, the program was designed to acquaint students with the local area and city center through one comprehensive activity, spread over four weekends and encompassing 13 separate events. This strategic approach sought to ensure that every student could smoothly transition into university life while gaining familiarity with their new surroundings.

Solution

To achieve these goals, the University of Manchester partnered with us and over the course of four weekends, we engaged 900 students in 13 separate events.

The University of Manchester was delighted with the ability to have multiple bespoke tablet journey events in a day and the fact that we ensured the same delivery team for each weekend with the same presenter and event manager. This made life easier for the university and led to an excellent, stress-free experience.

The beauty of events is that they can cater to any size group, indoors or outdoors, and the University of Manchester was able to take advantage of this while providing a fun and relaxed environment for the students to interact with each other and build relationships, while also helping them to adjust to their new environment and feel more comfortable in their new surroundings.

A study by the University of North Carolina found that team building activities can improve the mental health and well-being of international students, reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety. Additionally, a study by the University of Cambridge found that team building activities can also improve academic performance among international students, as they provide a sense of belonging and help to reduce feelings of isolation.

Overall the University of Manchester’s partnership with Blue Hat Teambuilding was a success in providing their new international students with a positive and memorable experience, as well as opportunities to network and make new connections. The team building activities also helped the students to feel more comfortable and supported in their new environment, which can lead to a smoother transition and a better overall university experience.
